August summer FUN!

We had such a mix match of weather in August. Terrible and rainy, then a week of above +35 degrees, then not too bad but the smoke from the BC wildfires was so bad, it didn't feel hot, plus it was awful to be outside. We managed to sneak in summer fun on days that we could!

One smoky day, the girls and I went shopping at the mall for indoor shoes. We had a great time, those girls love to shop! Kennedy picked out these super cute shoes and I wanted them so badly too! I decided to try the largest kids size they had (a size 7) hoping it would fit!! They DID! And they were comfy too! Plus, the kids shoes were buy one, get the second 1/2 price! Lexi's shoes were from payless, so it worked out! We were both excited to have matching shoes.

Fun on Papa's boat.

I watched Devonee's kids for a couple days while she went to Victoria with Mark, when she came back, we had a fun day to play before we were set to go camping with friends.
The smoke was insane, but we decided to risk it anyway. A couple times on the drive, we said, maybe we won't be there long because the smoke was so yucky. But Discovery Canyon, is just dipped below too big hills (in a "canyon" ;) and it made it okay. We stopped, of course, on the way there to get donuts at Donut Mill!

I love when they play together!

Lexi was at a birthday party one evening, so Brian and I took just Kennedy out. It was great to have some time alone with Kennedy and really focus on our oldest child! I don't remember the last time she had both her parents to herself like this! It was a pretty special night. I BBQ'd chicken and brought romaine to make caesar salad on the boat. Kennedy's favourite food in the world is caesar salad and Lexi doesn't like it. It was a nice dinner on the boat before we started boating! It did feel funny to be using plates and forks on the boat though!

We spent so much time on Kennedy to get her up surfing. She felt no pressure because someone was waiting on the boat for a turn so we just kept making her do it over and over and she got it! It took maybe 9 or 10 times, but each time she got a little better and understood the feeling. Now she pops up like a pro in no time! We were so proud of our girl for sticking with it and not giving up! She was mega proud of herself too. Theres nothing like that feeling of trying so hard to get something and finally doing it!

we have an awesome video where she first got it. you can see how proud she is.

It was such a gorgeous night. So warm and the sun just setting beautifully over the water. Brian and I will always be thankful we got the boat. It has provided us with hours and hours of quality family time. Having fun together, being close together - no where to go except in the water! Sometimes we just drive around. But this was pretty special, to have Kennedy all to ourselves.

Brian had some sweet moves!! He finally nailed the 360. We only have videos, sadly. But it was exciting!

The next night, we took Lexi out too. I went tubing with them for the first time in a long time! Normally, I don't like the tube.
Exhausted on the way home!
Then it was time for the Hodder Family Reunion. It was scheduled to be at Gull Lake- everyone camping, but the forecast was all rain and low temps :( so we cancelled and Nana & Papa hosted at their house! It worked out well.

Nana got these bubble gloves, and Ernesto was great at getting them to work!

We all went bowling, and I called everyone for a picture, and yes, thats where Papa went when everyone else was lined up!

Nana and Papa also planned a fear factor - that quite amazed me. The kids were so willing to try everything!! From stuffed olives to ginger beer to snapper canned fish and sardines. Some things were just AWFUL and made us gag! But all the kids kept trying it all! Impressive.

We also went swimming and had an epic cupcake war (I need to get those pictures!) we had 3 teams, each team got at least 8 cupcakes to do whatever we wanted with them. It was SO FUN!

It was a great reunion together. Mom and Dad did really well hosting and planning!

Jordana asked if we wanted to join them for a couple days at Echo Lake at their cabin. She asked me on a Wednesday and she was leaving that following Sunday! I debated for a bit, then decided, why not, summer is an adventure! So we made it work. We left basically right from the Hodder Reunion, drove down with her and the kids, Gibb drove me car down the following Thursday night and I left in my car early Friday morning to get to the Livingstone Family Reunion! It was busy and lots of driving. Luckily, my girls are always up for adventures and didn't mind the driving. We made it work and had a great time in Montana!

We only had one day of hot weather, but that didn't stop the kids from playing outside and in the lake a lot. Jordana and I still got in pretty much everyday for a swim too!

Kennedy and Jayna night swimming

Their neighbours have a really high rope swing and as it comes down it just barely goes over the water before returning back up high way above the water. We were all swimming in the lake, then in that neighbours hot tub and Kennedy and Jayna went to do the rope swing. Kennedy had done it probably 20 times that week, but she missed the ball you sit on just by a bit because she was so wet and slippery. Her legs fell down just as she was coming to the lowest point and hit the rocks of the shallow water and she face planted into the rocks. It was awful to watch. She came screaming up out of the water and I went running to her. Her legs were very badly scraped up and as we were cleaning her up, she kept asking me if she could go to sleep because she was tired. I was worried she had a concussion but with more pain relief and sitting to catch her breath and we fed her dinner, she was feeling way better. Her face was not cut at all. Not one bit, I think it was the shock and adrenaline she was feeling.  Poor girl. The next day she took it easy and didn't get her bandages wet. But before we left, she did the rope swing a few more times!! Put that fear to rest!

So tired on the long drive to Sheerness to meet Dad for camping! He was there Thursday night. We left by 6am and got there about 1:30 in the afternoon.

A couple extra pictures I like from camping at Sheeness in August.
