Lexi's surgery

Today, my baby girl had surgery. 1 week before her 2nd birthday!
It was a minor routine surgery (although in my mind, no surgery is minor!) to look at her esophagus, lungs, stomach, and small intestine. We were at the hospital by 6:15AM (getting up at 4:30 was not so fun). The nurses asked questions and filled out paper work after paper work then we had to wait for a while. She got put in hospital pajamas (that she did NOT like and given ankle bracelets (that she hated even more!) It didn't take much to calm her down, however. She was being soooo good! She even let all the nurses listen to her lungs/heart and check her temp and blood pressure a million times. This is not something she cooperates with when we go to CF clinic.

When it was time to go to the O.R., I chose to go in with her. The doctors and nurses are SSOOOOO fantastic at the Children's Hospital but, I felt better about it and then she didn't freak out for leaving me. They let her take her blanky in and put the mask on right away. I talked to her while she softly cried and breathed in the drugs. Then it was done! It was super quick. When I left and found my mom again, I got a little teary and nervous- it was weird seeing my little baby on an operating table.

Anyway, it was a quick 45-50 minute procedure, the the doctors came immediately to talk to me and give me pictures of what they looked at. (It all looks like nothing to me:) They told me everything looked great and her stomach was pristine!! Dr's. words: she couldn't look more perfect. I got to see her again once she was awake and responding. When they wheeled her back on this big bed, she was all curled up with her blanket and not moving at all. She looked at me, then closed her eyes. She was just so tired. She had to have her vitals checked a whole bunch, so she couldn't really sleep. She took turns cuddling with me and my mom. Once she was allowed to have liquids again, she was given a popsicle and apple juice. Well, that made her happy! She perked right up, got some color back in her face and smiled for us lots. She was discharged and we were free to leave! She's been eating normal, had a very small cough from the irritation of the scope down her throat and been very happy!

Here are a few pics.
she finally got happy about her jammies

falling asleep. I was tired!

So glad its over!

Wow you are amazing and strong. I would be a blubbering mess. I'm crying as I read this. It does remind me of when we took Kennedy to the hospital and how I was able to keep it together for you until I got in the car with Ernesto and lost it. But I had to be strong for you and you were for Lexi and that is why she was ok. Great job super mom!
Love you
