It still amazes me...

It has never ceased to amaze me whenever I am out and about with Kennedy, how total strangers approach us.  I didn't realize before I had her, that random people would come up to mom's of young ones and strike a conversation. When it first happened to me, it was the day I was released from the hospital and we had no groceries, so Brian, myself and our 25 hour old child went to Sobeys. I thought it ok, seeing as she was so small, that someone would talk about her. BUt it has never stopped. People I've never met will come up to me and ask about my child (she is so cute and yes, lots of HE is so cute. gosh....she's wearing pink!) anyway, its never bothered me, I just find it amusing. I laugh inside my head everytime. It tends to annoy Brian, and that REALLY amuses me. The other day, the 3 of us were shopping. WE walked into La Senza and I walked on looking for what I needed. THe lady (have you noticed there is ALWAYS someone at the front of the store at La Senza??) anyway, the lady rushed to Kennedy in the stroller that Brian was pushing and began talking to her. I was in the store for about 3-4 minutes and this whole time, the sales lady was jabbering away to Kennedy. When we left, Brian was like, uh, its so annoying, its not as if you can leave with them standing right there talking to your kid, and you can't stop it and so you stand there looking amused but really you are thinking- would you please go away and leave us alone!! I really had to laugh. I find it funny that he gets stuck in those situations. Its the kind of thing that you are so happy that its not you and you just laugh and feel sorry (only a tiny bit) that it is who it is.  Sometimes, it comes in really handy. Like today, I had to go get a follow-up X-ray for my leg and since I had noone to watch Kennedy, I brought her along. She can't go in the room and I'm not sure how I expected to do it in the first place, but the super nice x-ray techs took her away and sent me into the room. I think they were more than happy to have a cute distaction from their work, but all in all, it was a great help to me that they were so caring and kind so I could get my x-ray done.
ON they way home, it made me think...when does this stop? Surely the grocery store clerk isn't going to care that you have a teenager with you, right? Do they talk to 4 yr olds.....6 yr olds... "oh how old is your son/daughter....he/she is so cute"....."well actually she's 14 but gosh, she's so dang cute!" like that is going to happen. So when does this stranger responsiveness taper off.....I guess I'll find out. one day.

Well, people still do it with Seth, at 2, but not Cole or Liam, so somewhere between 2 and 6 may be the cutoff. Either that, or my boys just aren't that cute. :)

BTW, anytime you need someone to watch Kennedy, we're more than willing. Just cause I'm fat and never go out doesn't mean she's not welcome here. Soon, I may even have a few girl toys for her!

LOL! So true! Great Post! We all have gone through this, and yet I've never seen our thoughts written down on this subject yet.

I had to think for a bit when it stopped. Or did it?? Even when I attend my boys band concerts or whatever at the high school, complete strangers will stop me and say while pointing "IS that your son?" "Are you Colby's mom? Are you Corey's mom?"

And then they will proceed to give me their opinion on my child. Or ask me more about them.

I never really thought of this before......I guess it NEVER does stop! LOL!

HAve fun! Tell Brian not too worry....eventually he'll figure out what is the best and appropriate way to pull away from people and get out of the situation that he finds annoying. Usually people just keep jabbering away because they think the parent wants more "of it" to the child, if the parent just stands there and does nothing. I just smile and in a child like kind of voice say things like "Okay Kennedy, let's go. Wave bye bye to the nice lady." And then start walking away. Of course, it said with a smile.....but you get the idea.

Ummm, yeah, wait till you have a kid/kids with RED hair. You seriously can't go ONE SECOND without somebody commenting, telling you how they had a brother with red hair and always wanted red-headed kids, or wondering if red-heads really do have hot tempers (are they serious?!), etc. etc. etc.

Brett gets annoyed too. Must be a man thing.

Oh yeah, and Hazel's going to have a complex because everyone always says to her, "how come you didn't get the red hair?"

that is funny and oh so true! I think it tapers off around 5 or 6 unless you have a WHOLE passel of kids and then they just comment on the bunch of them. makes for some interesting convo's.

Okay, so I guess my kids just aren't that cute. :) Or maybe they are so well behaved no one notices them. Yeah, that's it...
